Why We Chose 3D Printing for Our Craft Kits

Every ColorFig figurine is 3D printed to order — a deliberate choice that shapes everything from how your Figment looks to how it arrives at your door. Here’s why we print our paint-your-own kits instead of mass-producing them.

Design freedom, not warehouse leftovers

Traditional toys are mass-produced in giant batches and sit in warehouses for years. 3D printing lets us design a character one week and offer it the next — and refine or retire it just as easily. That’s how we build a whole cast of seasonal Figments without betting everything on a single factory run.

Made for painting

We design each figurine with molded paint zones — gentle raised guides that make painting easier and more satisfying. 3D printing reproduces those crisp, chunky details reliably, so a piece like Flora the Bloom Keeper arrives crisp and ready to bring to life.

Made-to-order, in white, on purpose

Your Figment ships bright white because you’re the artist — that’s the whole point. Printing to order also means less waste and no mountain of unsold inventory. See how it works → or read our story.

Frequently asked questions

Are ColorFig figurines really 3D printed?
Yes — each one is 3D printed to order from PLA, a plant-based plastic, then shipped blank for you to paint.

Is 3D-printed PLA safe for kids?
PLA is non-toxic and plant-based. Our figurines are made to paint and display (we suggest ages 6+), with the water-based paints included in every kit.

Where can I buy 3D-printed paint-your-own figurines?
Directly at colorfig.com — pick a character and it ships blank with paints and brushes included.
